Native speaker at your service for your aviation French needs

Toni is a native Frenchman who lives in Tours, in the very heart of the Loire Valley. Most people speak French without any accent in that region. He has been teaching French as a foreign language since August 2021. He was a ramp agent; he flew gliders; he was an ATPL instructor (050 Meteorology & 081 Principles of Flight). He’s been teaching aviation English for more than twenty years, and he now teaches aviation French as well. His methods are those of the ICAO recommendations – flight safety through communication. This is why he tackles the weakest language skills first. Then he puts them together to deal with them as a whole. Indeed, conversation in aviation French is both the means and the goal.

Aviation French – and even French language – is difficult

French is tough with special sounds, vowels and consonants not to mention all the liaisons and exceptions. Grammar and syntax are tough as well with special locutions, conjugation, and tenses which can be tricky. When it comes to the DGAC French phraseology, it’s another story. Some differences between the DGAC manual and ICAO DOC 4444 Chapter 12, and even EASA SERA Section 14, have been declared. Some of them, not all of them!

The good news is that aviation French and English have a lot in common. You can request a first twenty-minute time slot. It is free, and it allows you to have a first assessment of your needs and objectives. You can ask your questions on the CONTACT page, or on +33667157562 or by email: fclanglais at gmail.com

What ICAO says about aviation French

About language proficiency: The obligation for language proficiency has its root in the Chicago Convention, article 33, requesting to the flight crew to prove language proficiency. Furthermore, the ICAO standards and recommended practices covering LPRs are contained in: Annex 1 – Personnel Licensing; Annex 6 – Operation of Aircraft, Part I and Part III; Annex 10 – Aeronautical Telecommunications (Volume II); Annex 11 – Air Traffic Services; ICAO DOC 9835; EASA SERA Section 14.

FCL ANGLAIS abides by the guidelines of the ICAO Circular 323-AN/185 as often as possible.
